Sewcialites quilt finished!

I began my Sewcialites quilt in September 2020 and finished it in September 2021.  I was usually able to make one block a week, but sometimes I fell behind a few weeks.

I used Bonnie and Camille fabrics which I've been saving/hoarding for 10 years, just waiting for the perfect project.  I used Kona white for the background.  I machine quilted it on my Bernina 750QE.  I began in the middle and worked my way out and up and down.  I used a small stipple or jigsaw design on the blocks and sewed a pebble stitch on the white areas.  The quilting is pretty dense or close together.  It took me about 3 days to finish the quilting.  I bound the quilt with leftover fabric from the quilt to give it a scrappy look.

I think my favorite block is the little toy sewing machine designed by my favorite designer, Lori Holt ❤️

Here's a photo of me showing my quilt at my quilt group,
Farm Girl Chicks.

Here's the label I sewed on the back.
I forgot to tell you about this back fabric!  I won it about 5 years ago, it's a Bonnie and Camille print as well.  I won 6 yards of it, plenty for a backing, and a fat quarter bundle of Bonnie and Camille as well :)

These are the fabrics I pulled from my Bonnie and Camille stash to use  in my quilt.  The green polka dot is Pam Kitty fabric, I really needed some more green!

This quilt goes in the grandchildren pile, although I'll have
a difficult time letting go of it...
You can find the patterns on the Fat Quarter Shop's blog, Jolly Jabber.

Scrappy Haystack Sampler quilt finished!

I made some changes to my quilt!  I took out three beautiful star blocks and added a horse on the top middle and a lamb and goat on the bottom row.  I thought that my grandchildren would enjoy the farm animals better than the stars :) I machine quilted a crosshatch pattern and I think it works really well with the business of the blocks.

This was my original quilt, it wasn't as bad as I though to remove three blocks, considering they were on the top and bottom rows.

This Woolley lamb is always fun to make, it doesn't have too many pieces.  It would be fun to make a quilt just from this block but I don't really know anyone in my family who loves lambs that much!

I think this goat with the little chick on his back is so adorable!  It was. a lot of fun to make too ❤️

I had a wideback piece of Lori Holt fabric for the back of the quilt and when I took a closer look at it, I saw the lamb. and other animals and decided to add them to my quilt.  I love, love, love the horse with the blanket on his back but forgot to take a closeup of the block before I sewed it into the quilt.

Finally, here's the label that I sewed onto the back.

Of course this quilt is going into the grandchildren pile!

Flower Power quilt

This quilt pattern is from the British magazine, Love Patchwork and Quilting, issue #10.  You can see my blog post from 2017 here.

I made this quilt in 2017 and just finished quilting it.  It will go in my grandchildren pile!

I love the large flower blocks, they showcase my "Gracie Girl" fabric,  designed by Lori Holt and named after her daughter whose name is Kassidy Grace.  Lori designed Kassidy's bedroom using this fabric line, you can see it here and here.  I totally forgot about the really cute quilts that Lori has for her Gracie Girl fabric, or any fabric for that matter.  I'll have to think about purchasing that pattern!

This quilt is called Flower Power and it's designed by Jeni Baker.

I backed this baby size quilt in a beautiful bubble gum color minky fabric.  You can see the way I machine quilted it too!  It wasn't very time consuming.  It's a large print and a small quilt :)

Whoever chooses this quilt also gets this cute table runner for their dresser.  I made it from the leftover half square "cut offs", the blocks are teeny, tiny.

I really love, love this fabric line.  I backed the table runner with cute clock fabric.

I haven't made the label yet, but I'm going to use this one :)

Join me again next Monday, I'll have another quilt for the grandchildren pile to show you ❤️

Savannah quilt

For our 15th grandchild, I knew I had to make a cute quilt!  I think I made a cute quilt for each grandchild, but I designed each one with special care.

Sabrina's nursery is green and peach, with a cactus theme.  I didn't have any cute cactus fabric, and couldn't find any online.  I decided to make a Savannah quilt with peaches, greens and black and white.  I know that babies like to look at black and white when they're newborns.

I had some panels left from a quilt I made of Gingiber fabric.

I didn't have a whole bunch left, so I really had to be creative.  The half square triangles are scrappy and I think it makes the quilt cuter.  All of the fabrics are animal prints and I know that my daughter in law loves cheetah print.

I bought a cute little soft elephant to keep with the jungle theme

Here is little Sabrina, she was born on Wednesday, August 25th.
I personalized the back of her quilt with her name.  I used Lori Holt's book "Spelling Bee" for the letters and I added an elephant label.

I was able to find a shop on Etsy that sold some Savannah fat quarters, and I made some burp pads with soft milky on the back.

Here are some photos of Sabrina, fresh from heaven ❤️

Have a great week, I'll be spending some time with little Sabrina :)

Don't you just love her hair!

Bats and Boos Quilt Along

I saw a quilt along on the Fat Quarter shop and really wanted to join in,,,,,even though I'm trying to finish quilts for my grandchildren pile!

You can see the info here if you want to make one.

I don't have any Hallowe'en quilts and really want one!  I have a little bit of Hallowe'en fabric which I bought on clearance in 2010!  I cut out the fabric for the four bats and realized that I didn't have enough of the wing fabric.  I looked on Etsy and found some very similar fabric to use for the left wing and you can barely notice that it isn't the same. It's just scrappy, right?

My pumpkin is a little busy with the large polka dots but I still like it :)

I really like the star too! I love mystery quilt alongs because you never know what it's going to look like when it's finished and that's part of the fun in choosing colors.  I'm going to back this little table topper that measures at 40 1/2" square, with Matilda the witch who is in the little center peekaboo square.

Here's my finished quilt.  I loved the look of the soft border, I used a Carolyn Friedlander fabric I had in my stash.  I auditioned some of my Hallowe'en prints and they were just too busy. Those little feet belong to my cute 8 year old grand daughter Kylie.

Have a wonderful week and thanks for following me ❤️

Scrappy Haystack Sampler quilt

I made the Haystack Sampler quilt from Lori Holt's book, Farm Girl Vintage.  I reduced the size quite a bit, to a large lap quilt approximately 64" X  78".  I made the courthouse steps blocks as leaders and enders, years ago.  I still have a lot left for another project!

I bought this wideback (108" wide) Farm Girl Vintage fabric a couple of years ago and wanted to back this quilt with it.  As I was looking at the fabric, the lamb caught my eye.  I love the Woolly Sheep block in Lori's book and thought of all the animal blocks in the Farm Girl Vintage 2 book.  Since this quilt is going in my "grandchildren pile", wouldn't it be cute if I put more animal blocks in the quilt!

I made the cute woolly sheep block, he's one of my favorites!

I made this goat and chick which I think are both adorable!  I've wanted to make them since the book came out!
I'm going to unstitch the two star blocks on the bottom row of the quilt and add these two instead.  That way they can keep Penny Pig and the other baby chick company and will delight one of the grandchildren :)

Have a great week ❤️

A Quilting Life, block of the month 2021

I've posted my previous blocks (January, February and March) for this quilt along, here.

Below is the April block of the month, and I love the way your eye gravitates to the arrow pointing up in the middle :)

Below is my May block of the month, I've always loved a star in a star block.  It's so much fun choosing the fabric for these blocks!

Below are all of my blocks, January through May.

This quilt is going to be so cute!  It won't go in my grandchildren pile though because it will be finished in December.  My grandchildren pile needs to be complete by American Thanksgiving, I will write about that down the road....

The blocks below are for the months of July and August, I'm all caught up now. Sherri said that she will have finishing fabric yardage in September, for the quilt.

When I saw Sherri McConnell's block of the month quilt last year, I really wished I had sewn along.  I didn't let this year slip away from me again, so I was "in" the month of January.  Some blocks are more time consuming than others, but it always works.  Only one block a month is totally doable for me.  I just love sew alongs so much, especially if I don't know what the quilt will look like when it's finished.  I trust Sherri and love her style, so I know it will be beautiful.  I'm trying to use pastel fabrics, not as bright as I usually choose.  I'm going for a "Fig Tree" vibe without actually using Fig Tree fabric.  I really love the fabric that Sherri and Chelsea design too. I don't buy much fabric unless I can get it on a really good sale because I already have so much!  If I was buying fabric and not trying to use my stash, I would definitely start hoarding Sherri and Chelsea fabric!

If you want to make this quilt, you can go to Sherri's blog here, it's free!

Temperature quilt

I'm making a Temperature quilt, using 2" X 3" triangles on a roll paper.  The first line on the left is January and then February, March, April, May, June and July.  The first day of the month begins at the bottom and works its way to the top.  The reason they aren't all the same length, is because some months are shorter than others.

I live in Arizona, so it doesn't get very cold.  January is in the 60's, with lows in the 30's and 40's.  The triangle is the high for the day and the two outside edges are the lows.  The pale blue, almost white color is rain.  If it rained in the day I made the triangle pale blue and if it rained at night, I made the two outside edges pale blue.  We don't get much rain, most of our days are sunny.  In July, we had quite a bit of rain during Monsoon season. When it rains in Arizona, everywhere floods because the ground is so dry that it can't absorb the water.

I'm not really sure how I'm going to assemble this quilt when all the months are sewn, but I'll definitely share it with you :)

Snowflake quilt

One of the quilt groups I was in wanted to make the Snowflake quilt together.  It's a really cute quilt and is a good size, measuring about 60"X 72".

It's a really modern quilt and I thought it would be fun to make as a group.  The pandemic hit and I ended up just making it by myself.  I scoured the internet to see all the other snowflake quilts people had made.  There are an endless assortment of colors and some people even made the background in squares.  I thought and thought about it and decided that the prettiest version I could think of were the color choices on the pattern.

I even machine quilted the quilt the same way that the designer did.  I sewed horizontal straight lines across the quilt.  My lines were an inch apart.  It was really hard though, because I had to keep changing the color of thread on the top, to match the fabric.  I used three spools, a bright pink which matched the pink and the red, white, and a bright turquoise blue which also matched the green.  I used a bright turquoise green thread in the bobbin to match the back of the quilt.

I knew that I wanted to use minky for the back since a snowflake is cold and a soft minky fabric is so warm and cozy.  I hunted for months, for the right color at my local quilt shops.  I finally found one that matched the  blue on the front perfectly.

The label is pinned on, I'll sew it later :). This quilt is going into my grandchildren pile and I think it would make a great quilt for a boy.

Here are the names and ages of my grandchildren:

Bridger - 16, Kennedy - 14, Charlotte - 11, Maisie - 11, Neo - 10, Reagan - 10, Ben - 8, Kylie -8, Lucy - 7, Paisley - 7, Isabelle - 6, Taylor - 5, Jacob - 5, Riley - 3

11 gi4ls and 3 boys, and they're all awesome!  The week of Thanksgiving, they will all be coming to visit and will get to choose one of my quilts in birth order beginning with the oldest. Eventually I will show my grandchildren pile of quilts :)

Have a great week!

Red Sampler quilt along

I haven't shown you my Red Sampler blocks in a while.  They are from the Red Sampler quilt along designed and hosted by Lori Holt from Bee in my Bonnet blog and she's also on YouTube.

I watched Lori's YouTube video about her red sampler quilt along recently and was able to do the house block and the snowflake block the week before she posted them, but forgot to take a photo.  This is the third block from last week.

I only had fat quarters half yard pieces of some of Lori's red fabrics and I'm quickly running out of some of the prints. I love the leaf pattern below, it looks a lot like the Canadian maple leaf.

I don't know why some of this block is cut off in the photo...

I've gone through four different fat quarters of red and white gingham!

I've always wanted to make a red and white quilt.  It's amazing how much fabric it takes to make a 12" block too!
Here are all the blocks I've made to date, on my design wall.  I have an extra 12" and also a 6" block, oops!  I'm sure I'll be able to use them somewhere.  I still have to add all the sashing around each block.

Have a fun Quilty week :)
