Scrappy Haystack Sampler quilt finished!

I made some changes to my quilt!  I took out three beautiful star blocks and added a horse on the top middle and a lamb and goat on the bottom row.  I thought that my grandchildren would enjoy the farm animals better than the stars :) I machine quilted a crosshatch pattern and I think it works really well with the business of the blocks.

This was my original quilt, it wasn't as bad as I though to remove three blocks, considering they were on the top and bottom rows.

This Woolley lamb is always fun to make, it doesn't have too many pieces.  It would be fun to make a quilt just from this block but I don't really know anyone in my family who loves lambs that much!

I think this goat with the little chick on his back is so adorable!  It was. a lot of fun to make too ❤️

I had a wideback piece of Lori Holt fabric for the back of the quilt and when I took a closer look at it, I saw the lamb. and other animals and decided to add them to my quilt.  I love, love, love the horse with the blanket on his back but forgot to take a closeup of the block before I sewed it into the quilt.

Finally, here's the label that I sewed onto the back.

Of course this quilt is going into the grandchildren pile!

Scrappy Haystack Sampler quilt

I made the Haystack Sampler quilt from Lori Holt's book, Farm Girl Vintage.  I reduced the size quite a bit, to a large lap quilt approximately 64" X  78".  I made the courthouse steps blocks as leaders and enders, years ago.  I still have a lot left for another project!

I bought this wideback (108" wide) Farm Girl Vintage fabric a couple of years ago and wanted to back this quilt with it.  As I was looking at the fabric, the lamb caught my eye.  I love the Woolly Sheep block in Lori's book and thought of all the animal blocks in the Farm Girl Vintage 2 book.  Since this quilt is going in my "grandchildren pile", wouldn't it be cute if I put more animal blocks in the quilt!

I made the cute woolly sheep block, he's one of my favorites!

I made this goat and chick which I think are both adorable!  I've wanted to make them since the book came out!
I'm going to unstitch the two star blocks on the bottom row of the quilt and add these two instead.  That way they can keep Penny Pig and the other baby chick company and will delight one of the grandchildren :)

Have a great week ❤️

Farmhouse Lane quilt is quilted!

I finished my Farmhouse Lane quilt, by Lori Holt!
I have been wanting to make this quilt since
Lori's book "Vintage Farmgirl" came out.
I'm pretty excited about how my machine quilting turned out.

I machine quilted swirls with petals.

I used the same fabric for my binding
as I did for the little pink border.
I used a crosshatch machine quilting pattern for the border.
Unfortunately, I was trying to sew one direction
and then tug at the quilt and pull it so that
I could go the opposite direction.
I didn't realize it, but by tugging at the quilt, I bent something on the needle shaft and had to take it in for a $150 repair!!!
It usually costs $120 for a Bernina update, oil and clean, etc,
but this one cost more.
On the bright side,
it was repaired in two days instead of two weeks!
When I was sewing the crosshatch design on the border,
on my newly oiled, cleaned and repaired machine,
I just went one direction, cut the threads and
moved it over 1 1/2" to sew the next line.

I bought this fabric about 3 or 4 years ago, and it's very pink,
not the corral that it shows in the photo.

My next quilt to work on at Farm Girl Chicks,
is the Scrappy Haystack Sampler quilt.
I've got all the Haystack blocks sewn, just
need to sew 13 12 l/2" blocks from the book
Farm Girl Vintage.

Thanks for following :)
