RBD Mystery Block of the Month - August

August's Riley Blake Design mystery block of the month is a Dresden block.
I have always wanted to make one of these blocks and it is so easy!
I really want to make a quilt with dresdens.
There are 20 different petals in this block, it was fun choosing all the different shades and prints of pink.
I don't really know why I'm making this quilt in pink, (maybe it's because I have 7 grand daughters) but I do need to sash in a different color to subdue all the pink!
Here is a link to my Pinterest Board where you can find the tutorial for August's Dresden block.

Here's a close up of all the different prints.
My fabric stash has definately grown in the past 5 years!

September will be the last of nine blocks and then I'll be able to assemble all nine blocks into a quilt :)

The Quilty Barn Along, Bitty Scrap Around Block

I love sewing these barn blocks!
I dug through my scrap box and found 1 l/2" strips to make this "bitty scrap around" block.
I really need to organize my scraps!

This is what my design wall looks like :)
Quilty barns and barns with silos, all waiting to be sewn into a scrappy quilt.

Lucy Jane Bundled in her New Quilt

I've blogged about this quilt at least twice and I promised to show you some photos of Lucy Jane, the baby I made the quilt for!
Lucy Jane is only 2 days old.
Lucy Jane is my 9th grandchild and 7th grand daughter :)
She looks so much like her mom when she was a baby!
One of the best joys in life is holding a newborn.
I am sure going to miss this baby!
The next time I'll see her, she'll be two and a half months old.

Diaper Pouch Tutorial

I found the cutest Diaper Pouch tutorial, here is the link.

I made one and is it so easy, that I want to make a whole bunch of them for gifts!
You can grab this little pouch and throw it in your diaper bag, or just carry it all by itself and you will always have a few diapers and some wet wipes!
This is the view of the little pouch sideways, isn't it cute?
I made it for my daughter Lindsay, and she chose the fabric from her stash.
This is the bottom of the bag, it has a box pleat to fit more items.
The Diaper Pouch holds three diapers, a pack of wet wipes, and a tube of diaper rash ointment, car keys and a cell phone. It would be smart to add a little pocket in the lining, for your cell phone.

I'm excited to make some more, and when I do, I'll definitely show them to you :)

A Trip to the Doll Shop

I love to visit Gardner Village in West Jordan, Utah, and my grand daughter Kennedy loves to accompany me. I love being with her, so it's a win/win situation :). Kennedy is 6 years old and she loves dolls, their clothes and accessories. She has a particular love for paper dolls!
There is a gorgeous store at Gardner Village called the Georgell Doll Shop.
Come inside with us for a visit......

These clothes are all for 18" dolls, like American Girl dolls.

Hats, wedding dresses, princess dresses, and so much more!

There is doll candy everywhere you look! Kennedy is in doll heaven...

A rack of "groovy girls", Kennedy has a few of those!
Whenever we come to this shop, she chooses one who looks like her mom, one who looks like her dad (yes, they are some boy groovy dolls), one who looks like her big brother Bridger, one who looks like her little sister Charlotte, and one who looks like herself. She even chooses one who looks like me :)
It's really cute to see the different ones she chooses!

Look at the pretty chandeliers, they have dragon flies dangling from them.

Ooh la la!!!

I love the hardwood floor.

One last look before we leave the store....

Kennedy thinks it's a treat just to go inside this doll shop, she never even asks me to buy her anything :)

Kennedy is a little doll herself!!!
She always likes to dress fancy.
When I come to visit, she loves to choose my clothes for the day.
First she lays out the undergarments, in the shape of a body on the floor.
Then she lays the clothes on top, in order.
On top of that, she puts the jewelry she wants me to wear.
Kennedy makes me feel really special, and I love her to the moon and back!

Bee in my Bonnet Row Along, quilted!!!

My beautiful "Bee in my Bonnet Row Along" quilt is finished!!!
I really love the way Cindy quilted it :)

I drove to a few parks looking for a place in the shade to photograph my quilt.
I found a golf course, but the quilt was too heavy to hang from a tree with clothes pins.
I found a pretty Elementary school but the iron fence was too thick for the clothes pins to hold onto.
I gave up and photographed the rest of the quilt in my house.
This photo was taken outdoors, mostly in the shade, partially in the sun :)

I love the pink scalloped border fabric, it's really bright and happy.
The binding is the same fabric as the little green border.

This is the best photo I could get of the entire quilt, not too good!

I hung the quilt over a chair, it just looks good wherever it hangs.
Lori has written a companion book to this quilt, it's called "Quilty Fun" and you can pre order it here.
It's full of adorable quilts and projects with the cute little designs from this quilt.
I'm really anxious to get my copy in September :)
It was so much fun seeing everyone's blocks and finished quilts, it felt like a virtual quilt guild.

A Princess iPad case and tutorial link

I made a portable DVD player holder for a little girl, it had the same measurements as my iPad.
The tutorial can be found at Fresh Lemons quilts.
These are the prints I chose.

Here is the finished iPad case.

Isn't the closure tab the cutest?  It's Aneela Hooey's "Posy".

Look at the little girl reading a book on the under side of the tab.

Here's a little close up of her.

This is the back of the iPad case.

The inside of the pocket has more princess dresses with a blue background.
These cases are very easy to make and don't take much time either.
They would be a good item to make and sell at an etsy site.
