Stellar Stars quilt

I entered this quilt in a local quilt show and want to talk about the pattern.  It's Stellar Stars by Cristy Finch for Purple Daisies.

This quilt was very difficult to make! Each of the large 12 blocks had twelve pages of instructions.  I made it with my friend Nedra, it was a block of the month for the Phoenix Modern Quilt Guild.

It definitely tested my skill levels.  I can't even remember all the techniques I learned, as it was approximately 5 years ago that I made it. Nedra and I would get together every month and work on one or more of the blocks.  There were templates, appliqué and foundation paper piecing.  Nedra would read all the instructions (I should have also) and would explain the process to me.  I felt like I was floundering with almost every block.  There were lots of points that didn't match and disasters like that.  The flying geese were really fun to make with triangles on a roll.  I really felt like this quilt was a train wreck!!!

Last year, I was caught up on getting my quilt tops machine quilted.  It was time to get Stellar Stars out of the closet and to my friend Marti at Lynny Lou Crafts in Gilbert, Arizona. She worked her magic on my quilt and wonder of wonders, I fell in love with my quilt!!!
Now I absolutely love it and don't see any of the unmatched points.
I guess the moral of this story is, don't give up on your quilt. It can get a new life when it's machine quilted
Also, all the fabric was from my stash, even the grays for the flying geese. I did buy some Kona snow for the background though.  These days, I even have extra fabric for backgrounds in my stash.

Thank you for following, I hope you enjoyed my story and that maybe it helped you in your quilt journey :)

Quilt Top Finishes

Here is my Stellar Star quilt.
I love all the jewel toned colors.
The blocks and the flying geese are all paper pieced.
Each of the large (12") blocks had about 24 pages of instructions.
Needless to say, this is an advanced level pattern.
I used fabric from my stash which makes me really happy!

Since I've been going to Farm Girl Chicks,
about a year and a half,
I've been working on this Farmhouse Lane quilt.
I finally finished it, yay!

I tried something new, I taped the back fabric to the floor.
It was so much easier the straighten the batting
and then gently lay the quilt on top.
I safety pinned all three layers together.
I dont think ther are any creases in the quilt back.

I've been spending my free time machine quilting my
Farmhouse Lane quilt.
I'm excited to see the quilt finished!

Thanks for following along :)

Stellar Stars

I belong to the Phoenix Modern Quilt Guild,
and last year I joined their block of the month quilt,
Stellar Stars.
(I don't know why it says 2018!!!)

This quilt pattern is not for the faint of heart...
This block wasn't too bad, I used the Lori Holt applique method.
(of course!)

This block was paper pieced, not too bad...

This block was also paper pieced, a little more difficult.

This block was paper pieced, I really enjoyed making this one.

This block was paper pieced, it was super difficult!
I actually made it twice!!!

This block was pieced, but....
luckily my friend Nedra gave me the measurements
or I couldn't have made it.
The directions could have been in Greek!!!
I have no idea how it happened,
but the block measures an inch bigger than it should be!!!
I just can't remake it!

I laid all my blocks out, they really are beautiful.
There are a million flying gray geese, all paper pieced.
I really enjoyed making them.

The quilt top needs to be finished by this Saturday,
for our meeting.
I think there were only about 5 of us that made this quilt,
and I really want to show it off,
it was an advanced pattern.
Nedra and I got together monthly to work on our blocks together.
She was a great help to me, but I got behind quite a few months
due to extenuating circumstances.
The blocks I showed you are ones that I had to make on my own.
Here's a photo of Nedra and I, maybe as far back as July!

Next week I'll have a photo of my finished quilt top.
Have a great week!

Stellar Stars

My friend Nedra invited me to join the Phoenix Modern Quilt Guild, which I did.
Each year, they have a quilt that they offer as a block of the month.
This year it's Stellar Stars by Purple Daisies Quilting.
Nedra and I usually get together once a month and work on our blocks together.
We invited Brenda to join us on our sew day,
and we had such a fun time!

With Nedra's help, I was able to finish my block, Grandma's Glitter.

Nedra is a month ahead of me, and her block is totally paper pieced and much more complicated!
Nedra's block is called Astral Plane.

It's so much more fun quilting with friends :)

Stellar Stars

I belong to the Phoenix Modern Quilt Guild, and this year's block of the month is Stellar Stars
by Cristy Fincher @ Purple Daisies Quilting.
It's really pretty and very modern looking!

My friend Nedra and I get together once a month
to make the block together.
I'm grateful that she's able to help me because some of these blocks are beyond my skill level.
January was the Limelight block, it was very easy!

February was Friends Forever, it was a little difficult...

March was Fire Flower, it was still easy because it was pieced.

April was the Mississippi Star, it was pretty difficult, paper pieced.

These are my Simple Sue blocks, made them with
triangles on a roll, the best invention ever!

Here are my Ohio Stars, I'm behind one.
They're also made with triangles on a roll which can be
purchased at Fat Quarter Shop.

Finally, my Flying Geese Sashings.
Once you get going, they are so much fun to make!
They're paper pieced.
I really love paper piecing, I think it's relaxing...
(that is if the method isn't too difficult!)
I still need to make 8 more!

I'm excited to show you more progress as the months go by :)

Stellar Stars

I'm a member of the Phoenix Modern Quilt Guild.
As our optional block of the month this year, we're making this beautiful modern Stellar Stars quilt, designed by Cristy Fincher,
@cristycreates on Instagram.

My friend Nedra and I get together at one of homes, and make our blocks.
These are January.
I love how the blocks can look so different
with the depth of the colors.

We quilt the whole day while my cute little 4 year old grand daughter Isabel, entertains herself.
She is sooooo good and sweet and polite.
Izzy took this photo of Nedra and I, with our blocks.
I'm actually taller than Nedra, but.....

This is February's block, so pretty!

This is the companion February block too!
Nedra gave me some triangles on a roll to make this block,
they are awesome!!!

These are our March blocks :)

Finally, here is little Izzy, my protege photographer :)
