Thimble Blossoms and Heather Ross

It's time to make another baby quilt for a little grand daughter who is due at the end of February :)
I perused my patterns and found this old Thimble Blossoms pattern.
I thought it would be a great pattern to showcase some pretty fabric.
My cherished Heather Ross collection came to mind!

I really love Heather's fabric, and have the entire Far, far away line in my stash.
I adore this unicorn in her lovely field of wildflowers!
Just imagine how heavenly their scent is....
I pressed Wonder Under to the circles, which is so easy to work with.
I used a blanket machine stitch to attach them to the background.
Before I did that, I had to buy some more Aurifil thread to match the unicorn circles, yay!

I disected the unicorns in half vertically, for the half squares.
One of the halves has a unicorn head and the other has the unicorn's  behind! Ha ha!!!
I didn't know how else to do it!!!
Kind of weird because they're all chasing their rear ends....
What made me think of pairing Far, far away with this pattern in the first place, was how I could place the cute Princess and the pea images.

I tried lots of different sashing colors to frame the unicorns, this bright orange stood out the best :)

I love the outside border, pink with yellow polka dots which sort of gives a hint of orange.
Now which color rick rack?
I like the pink, but needed another opinion.
My daughter Lindsay liked the pink best, so the pink won!

I hung the quilt on my tree in the backyard for the best light.
The sun was shining brightly so there was a little too much light!

Did I tell you how much I love these unicorns?
Notice the strawberry fabric at the top?
They are from Heather Ross' Briar Rose line.
Yes, I have that entire line in my stash also :)

Here's the finished quilt, bound with yellow.
It's backed with really soft pink minky, I didn't use any batting.
This method (without batting) gives the quilt a silky drape.
The quilt is so soft and pliable, that it kind of ripples a little.
This  quilt will be perfect for swaddling babies.

I machine quilted this quilt with a wavy stitch which is apparent on the minky back.

I didn't design this pattern, but I did do a lot of designing in the way that I used Heather Ross' fabric :)
I'm going to make some matching burp pads with the leftover minky and more Far, far away fabric.

Paperdoll Quilt, Finished!

It's been almost 5 years, but my Paperdoll Quilt is quilted and bound and finished!!!
It is so difficult to get a photo of a quilt, have you ever tried?
Do you have any tips for me?
This is a full view of my quilt before it was quilted.
This post will show you how beautiful Cindy Paulson quilted my treasured Paperdoll Quilt!
Here are the paperdolls, in the center of the quilt.
I love the "pebble" quilting on the "paper doll" block.
I also think that the vertical quilting behind the paper dolls really shows them off.

I want to mention that the paper doll quilt is lying on a bed with a quilt on top of it.
You may notice the quilt underneath at the edge of the paper doll one.
Do you notice the quilted flower vine on the polka dot border?

Cindy quilted "x's" in every single 1" square!
Don't you love the little pom pom trim added inside the binding?

It just turned out so pretty!

Little dainty swirls, enhancing the hand embroidery.
I love how the quilting makes the suitcase look even more vintage.

The kite looks like it's in motion :)

Cindy is always so careful  not quilt over my embroidery, I completely trust her with my quilts!

She quilted around the embroidered sprays of water from the hose, to complement the embroidery :)

Thank you for letting me share my quilt with you.
I'll take a photo of it hanging on the wall after Thanksgiving.
I think it's sort of Christmasy with the paper dolls on it.
It reminds me of little girl things like "The Nutcracker" and sugar plum fairies dancing in my head.  Lol!

Baby Girl Quilt

I have another grand daughter who we are expecting in August :)
It's always a miracle to experience being a grandmother, seeing each special little spirit and who they look like!
I bought this kit at Pine Needles about 5 years ago, I fell in love with it.  So much so, that I bought a girl kit and a boy kit.
I made the blue one for Benjamin, you can see it here.
This is what the main panel looks like without being pressed :)
I think it's so cute and vintagy!!!

Here are the lovely fabrics, there is even a white eyelet.

This is the softest minky!
It will be used for the border and the back.

Aren't these babies darling?

I cut all that fabric into l l/2" strips.

Then I sewed the strips together in pairs, some by fours.

I had lots of these combinations.

In the meantime, I fussycut the baby fabric into 4 l/2" squares.
I barely had enough, I had to piece one of the squares.

After much measuring, cutting, sewing and pressing, I ended up with these stacks.

Here is the finished quilt top :)
I can hardly wait to bundle up my little grand daughter in this soft, snuggly quilt.
I'll show you more photos when I get it quilted in July.

These are my favorite little blocks, "soooo sleepy" and "daddy's girl".

"Rub-a-Dub-Dub" and "Peek-a-Boo!"

This quilt is called "Marley Jane" by Remember When Pattern Co.

Mom's Quilt

I used a jelly roll and a charm pack to make a quilt for my mother for Christmas.
It is from Fig Tree and I think the colors will match her couch perfectly.  I used the same quilt pattern for Vanessa's quilt.

Emily's Garden in Blossom by Cotton Way.

The blanket stitch was pretty easy to do on my sewing machine.

18 circles are appliqued onto 18 squares.

This is the finished quilt.  I kept the colors in their groups....all the greens together, all the peaches together, and the browns together.

I like the appliqued flower with the nine patch center!

I machine quilted the quilt with a meandering stitch, or jigsaw pattern.

I love the back, it's from the same line and so is the binding.

I would highly recommend this pattern, it uses one jelly roll and one charm pack.  It is a lot of fun to sew, and is simple.
One thing I would suggest is that when you are sewing the strips together, rotate sewing from each end.  I didn't do that with Vanessa's quilt, and had to stretch it a lot to get it back into shape!

Vanessa's Quilt

I made this quilt 4 years ago.

It takes a jelly roll and a charm pack.  I used the "sweet" line from Moda.

I made the quilt for my then 16 year old daughter Vanessa.

I always loved this line with its gingham, polka dots, stripes and roses.  I love the colors too.

The circles were so easy.....you trace circles onto wonder under and iron it to the wrong side of the square charm.  I cut the circles out and ironed them onto a square charm.  Then I stitched the circle onto the square with a blanket stitch on my sewing machine.

On Wednesday, I will show you a quilt I made for my Mom for Christmas using this pattern, but a different line of fabric.
f
I love seeing a pattern made with different colors and styles.
