Quilty Fun quilt finished!

post signature
I finished my Quilty Fun quilt!
It's been finished for a long time....the quilt along began on November 2013, and I kept up with each week's block.
It took me forever to get the quilt to Cindy Paulsen, my friend and artist machine quilter.
Then it took me forever to get the quilt bound!

I love Lori Holt's designs!
The "Bee Happy" embroidery sets off the whole quilt.

I put two little girls in the doorways of the house, one of them is Little Red :)

Scrappy quilts are so colorful, isn't the scalloped inner border cute?

I made Lori's Quilty Fun Row Along quilt and gave it to one of my granddaughters for her bed.
I'm keeping this one for myself, it has all the blocks that the row along had :)

I've always loved these butterflies and the little posies.

All of the blocks in this quilt are from Lori Holt's book, Quilty Fun.
You can go to Lori's blog from my "Quilty Fun Sew Along" button to the right of my blog.
If you want to see all of my blocks in detail, type "quilty fun sew along" in the search button.

Quilty Fun Sew Along, Finished border and top!

I have enjoyed this quilt along so much!
If you're just joining me, Lori from Bee in my Bonnet designed this quilt.
I managed to keep up every single week, which was a lot of work and late nights sometimes.
This is the entire quilt, with all the sashing.

I always love a red border, it adds a good pop of color.
I think the scallop that Lori designed is so pretty.
It's a nice, pieced border, and a lot of little squares to cut out :)

One of my favorite color combinations, is red and aqua.
I love the aqua border, luckily I had this great fabric in my stash.

The red is by Moda, designed by Bonnie and Camille.
The aqua is by Moda also, designed by Aneela Hooey.
I will have to put this cute quilt on the back burner for now as I have to finish my tee shirt quilt and I'm going to begin Lori's new quilt along on Monday :)
It's the Great Granny quilt along.
I hope you've enjoyed my Quilty Fun Sew Along journey.
I've enjoyed seeing some of your lovely blocks too.

Quilty Fun Sew Along, Week 19

I have tried my best to keep up with this weekly Quilty Fun Sew Along, and have been successful!
Sometimes I've had to make the block a week or two ahead of time because I've been out of town, but it worked for me :)
I have pinned all of the block tutorials on my "Quilty Fun Sew Along board on Pinterest, although you do need the book for all the measurements.
I've really been looking forward to this "bumblebee" block.
I used Kona charcoal for the bee's head, I had already used the same fabric for the "spools" block.
The bee's body is yellow "Vintage Happy" and a black gingham.
The wings are "Polka Dot Stitches".

I traced the letters onto the block, using my light box.

I embroidered the letters, it took about an hour and a half without interruptions.
I usually use red for letters, but decided to stitch in orange instead.
I am a little disappointed because the letters would show up better if they were in red.
Red always "pops".
I'm not disappointed enough to start over though....

I sewed the border on, and the bee came alive!!!

While I was at it, I decided to sash the rows together, creating the center portion of the sampler.
Now I'm ready for Lori to show us how to add the borders, on Monday.

I hope you're enjoying this Quilt Along.
I've loved following other blogs who are doing this same sampler.
I need to give a big "Thank you" to Greg at Grey Dogwood Studio for helping me with my iron issue.
He suggested using spray starch, which was great advice!
Amy from A Quilting Sheep gave me similar advice, thank you so much!
I can hardly wait to see what borders everyone will be choosing :)

Quilty Fun Sew Along, Week 18

This week was the "Posie" flower block.
There were a lot of little white squares to cut out for each flower!
4 for the flower and 4 for each leaf.

This particular block was pretty time consuming, but I love choosing the fabrics and seeing the blocks come together!
I have been having "iron" issues.
I haven't been using steam at all, but don't like the way my iron is pressing.
Any suggestions?

Quilty Fun Sew Along, Week 17

It's Week 17, not many more to go, in the Quilty Fun Sew Along.
This week, it's the mitten block.
There were a lot of different sizes to cut out of the white.

I really like this deer print, but it was a little tricky making sure all the deer were facing the same direction.

I love this swirly orange, it almost looks like frost :)

Pink, this is the color of my skin if I've been out in the cold too long, Lol!!!

My mitts are complete, but do you notice another mistake I made?
The deer are upside down!
I have a lot to do these days, and I'm trying to sew quickly!
Did I tell you that we're moving to another house in a few days, a few blocks away, and that my son is coming home from his 2 year church mission in 5 weeks and 1 day?
My grand daughter's 4th birthday is coming up and I want to make her some doll clothes for the doll we gave her at Christmas.
So many sewing projects, so little time.....

All is not lost, I think the mittens look better this way.
Thanks for letting me share all my sewing projects with you, it's really nice to have an audience :)

Quilty Fun Sew Along, Week 16

This week, I sewed 6 spool blocks.
These are the quilty colors I chose.

Here are my spools, laying across my red chair.
I used the same Kona charcoal for the spools, that I used for the butterfly bodies.

After I sewed my spools, I cut out sashing and sewed the right section of my quilt together.
The 2 posie blocks will be sewn on the bottom, below the four honeycombs.
I need to start thinking what colors I want my borders to be :)

Quilty Fun Sew Along, Week 15

This is the week for butterflies, one of my favorite blocks.
I have a board devoted to butterfly quilts on Pinterest, I love them so much!
You can see it here.
I placed my blocks in order on the floor, because I wanted to see what colors would look best for the butterflies.
The butterflies will go to the right of the houses.
The house on the right is pink with touches of red, including Little Red Riding Hood in the doorway.

I decided the first butterfly should be red, and since I like red so much, the third butterfly should be red also.
What goes perfectly with red?  Aqua!
I was in a hurry and made a mistake.
The middle butterfly should be going sideways for a scrappy look.
Do you think I should change it or leave it?
Leave me a comment and give me your opinion.

Quilty Fun Sew Along, Week 13

I'm out of order on my blocks, but better late than never!
I had an off day when I made these blocks yesterday :)
I cut and sewed these leaves but the stems weren't centered and the seam allowances must have been off.
The blocks wouldn't match up to the long piece of white sashing.
Notice how the blocks are so uneven on the bottom?
AAAAAgh!!!

I cut out more fabric and sewed the leaves together again.
Usually I don't do that, I just make things fit.
There was some water in the iron, and the seams are all puckery!
This time the seams were all matching but the leaves don't look very good with all the puckers!
I think it's time to take a little break from sewing for a few days :)

I sewed all the blocks together with sashing, on the left side of the quilt.
It's starting to come together :)
I think I am going to have to change those puckery leaves again!!!

Quilty Fun Sew Along, Week 14

I made my house blocks for the Quilty Fun Sew Along.
I had some water in the iron so the fabric is a little "puckery".
My iron's not working very well right now so I think I'll exchange it for another one.

Here's my second house block, they are such fun to make!
I love Little Red Riding Hood.

You can find more about the Quilty Fun Sew Along here, at Lori Holt's blog, Bee in My Bonnet.

Quilty Fun Sew Along, Week 12

Week 12 is the tulip block on the Quilty Fun Sew Along.
When we lived in Utah, our house had a lot of tulips in the front yard, along the walkway.
Each spring, I would take my children's photo in front of the tulips.
It was amazing to see how much they grew each year :)
The tulips were red and yellow, so those are the colors I chose for my blocks.

I love the skinny stems, just like a real tulip!

Finished!
The tulips didn't take much time to make, especially since there were just two of them :)

Quilty Fun Sew Along, Week 11

This week I'm making the snowball block in the Quilty Fun Sew Along.
If you want to find out more about this quilt along, click the button to the right of my blog.
I've never made this block before, it's been on my list for a while.
One of the best parts of making a quilt is choosing a color scheme.

I cut out a lot of white squares!

This is my little snowball block before the edges are turned out and pressed.

These two blocks look so different, but one is just trimmed and the other one isn't.

A pile of trimmings, too little to use for anything.

This is my pile of freshly pressed snowball blocks.

My finished snowball blocks, all waiting to be organized into the Quiltty Fun Sampler.

See you next week :)
