Comforts of Home

I made this quilt in 2008 and 2009.  I made so many friends and learned new skills.  This is the most amazing quilt I have ever made.
"Comforts of Home" designed by Lori Holt.
This is the main block.  Everything centers around the home, and every room in the home is represented in this quilt.
The detail is incredible!

The "chair" block is my favorite.  Everything is appliqued, and accented with embroidery.

I love the tassels in the rug, the slippers and the curved satin stitch on the chair ruffle.

This was the same phone we used growing up and I embroidered our old telephone number.

I had a pair of roller skates exactly like these...they worked best with rubber soled running shoes.  There are 32 pattern pieces in this block, each one is very tiny.

This quote is so true.

When I was a two years old, I remember stretching up on my tippy toes and spelling out the word WESTINGHOUSE.  I could barely reach the letters.

Do you remember playing any of these games?

This word rang true for me when I was making this quilt.  I later sewed a green button for the dot on the "i".

Everyone I've shown this quilt to, loves this block!  My son used to watch the Andy Griffith show all the time.  I printed the photo onto fabric that can be put through the printer and then appliqued it in place.  We had a TV like this when I was little :)

I embroidered the countries where my sons served their church missions.  My youngest is in Brazil and I am going to add my sons in law, Spain, Baltimore and Italy.

Isn't this old fashioned tub cute?

We never had a radio like this, but my Mom did.

This always makes me smile :)  Donny Osmond was in elementary school, James Taylor was in middle school, and Led Zeppelin was in high school!

The finished quilt!

I forgot to take some closeup photos of the bed, with the pillows embroidered "Mr." and "Mrs.", and the cute clothesline, the crockpot and the fireplace.

Cindy did a phenomenal job with the quilting.

I embroidered a poem on the back, and when I realized how much time I had spent on it, I used pigma pen to write about my family.

The embroidery really sets off the quilt.

Quilters make the best friends!
This is the day of our last "Comforts of Home" quilt class.

I hope you enjoyed seeing my most favorite quilt of all!!!

Paperdoll Block Embroidery, part 2

Well, I did it!  I finished my last paperdoll block!
This is how I left you last Friday, all the lace was left to embroider.

The block sure comes to life embroidered, doesn't it?
The lace stitch is all done in lazy daisies.
The applique looks so much better when it is embroidered.

I have mini pom pom trim to sew onto the pillowcase, but won't until the quilt is quilted.

Block #14 is completed.  What a great feeling!
It has taken me four years, but I'm not finished yet....

Next week I will show you Blocks 1 and 2.
The paperdolls themselves with written (embroidered) instructions for the paperdoll owner, on how to cut out the paperdolls and glue them to cardboard, etc.
You won't want to miss next Friday, the paperdolls are gorgeous!!!
Thanks for visiting, and being interested :)

The Toothfairy visited Kennedy

I told you in October that my grand daughter Kennedy, had a loose tooth.  I made her a toothfairy envelope, you can read about it here.
On Friday, Kennedy's loose tooth came out!
She was so happy and excited!!!

Look at that tooth, her first one!

Kennedy wrote a letter to the toothfairy in her fanciest printing.
"Dear Toothfairy, Please get Bridger... (her 7 year old brother)

... a prize.  Love, Kennedy"  xoxoxoxoxoxo
Isn't she thoughtful?

Kennedy put her tooth and her letter to the toothfairy in her envelope.

Kennedy put her toothfairy envelope on top of two pillows, and under one.  I guess that little princesses sleep with a lot of pillows :)

She put her owl mask over her eyes and snuggled under the covers to go to sleep.  She even sleeps with a smile on her face....LOL

The toothfairy left her a beautiful purse with a dollar inside!!!

The toothfairy left Bridger a dollar, just because Kennedy asked her to :)

Hallowe'en Cuties!

I told you that my husband and I were spending Hallowe'en with our kids and grandkids, and that I would show you some photos.

This is my oldest daughter Rebecca, with her new little baby, Benjamin.  He is 8 weeks old, and his due date was on Hallowe'en.

This is Maisie, Benjamin's big sister.  She is two and is dressed as a fish with lots of personality! One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish.

This is my oldest son Jordan, his wife Kimalee and their daughter Reagan, who will be two in three weeks.  Reagan is their adorable little cow, and when she walked, her red cow bell would jingle :)

This is Neo (nay-oh), my son Addison and his wife Mabulane's little girl.  She just turned two, and isn't very cooperative when I am trying to take her photo!

Neo is dressed as a cute little cowgirl.

I finally got a smile!

This is Bridger, he is 7 and in second grade, in Chinese immersion.  He is a very handsome vampire!  My daughter Lindsay made all three of her children's costumes and their photos are taken by a professional photographer.

Kennedy is 5, and in Kindergarten.
Isn't she the prettiest with ever?

This is Charlotte, she is 2.  She is a precocious
"scawee black cat"!!!

Here are some closeups with my husband and I and our grandchildren.

Me, Kennedy and Charlotte

Help, a vampire is trying to bite me!!!

My husband Rick, with Maisie :)

Reagan really loves her Grandpa :)

Now you can see why I sew for my grandchildren so much, I love them!!!

Paperdoll Block Embroidery, part 1

The paperdoll quilt has two paperdolls in the middle of it.
I named mine Rebecca Louise and Lindsay Leigh after my two oldest daughters who are 16 months apart in age. Lindsay's name is red throughout the quilt with matching red initials on the tabs, and Rebecca's name is purple.

It's cute that the little bunny slippers have tabs too!

This paperdoll block has the least amount of embroidery than any of the other blocks.  The lace on the baby doll pyjamas is going to be challenging.

I embroidered the words at the bottom.

The fabric is wrinkly, I won't press it until I'm finished with the embroidery.

This is the popcorn before.....

.....and this is the popcorn embroidered.

Next week I will show you the completed block.
Wish me luck with all that lace!

Pennant Banner

HAPPY HALLOWE'EN!
My husband and I are going trick or treating with our cute grandchildren tonight!!!
I will take pictures and show you next week:)

I have wanted to make a pennant banner for myself for a long time and finally got around to it!  My daughter motivated me by giving me four of the triangles that she had sewn.  They are the red polka dot, the pinwheels on white and the green horizontal stripe.  There is a fourth one (green polka dot) but it was hiding under the orange elephants and I didn't see it until I sewed them to the binding.

I had fun choosing the other fabrics to match the ones my daughter gave me.  Each fabric has a story.....the Amy Butler on the left is leftover from a quilt I made for my daughter Rebecca.  The orange elephants is leftover from a minky burp pad that I made for my new grandson Benjamin.  The yellow is leftover from some pants I made for my grand daughter Kennedy when she was two.  The red rick rack is leftover from the "Slide Show" quilt that I made for my daughter, Lindsay.  I bought the British fabric to use for posts in my Baby Brit quilt, but changed my mind.  The yellow Japanese fabric was used in our girl's sewing night, and I made a "smarty girl book bag" for my daughter from the Heather Bailey red and green fabric.
It seems as though fabric has lots of memories!

I bought double fold bias tape in a package at Joann's and pinned and sewed the pennants.

There is one side of the double fold bias binding that is shorter than the other.  You sew on that side so that the side that you can't see will be stitched because it is a little longer.  Was that as plain as mud?  LOL

Well look who's taking a photograph!

My husband says it looks like a birthday party.
Why not, it feels like happiness to me:)
The colors compliment my scrappy great granny quilt that is on the back of my red couch.

Now I want to make a fall pennant banner to hang in front of the fireplace.
