Quilty Fun Birthday Cake Banners

My daughter said she'd like a rainbow cake :)
This is what came to my mind, but maybe she meant layering the cake itself into rainbow colors...
This is the first time I've used a print for the background, I've always used Kona white.

It sure makes a different when I add the appliqué and the border!
I appliqued the names on with red Aurifil thread.

This is the first time I've tried "organic" machine quilting and I'm hooked!
You start at the middle top, and eyeball your way to the bottom.
I move over 3 or 4 stitches and continue my way in the opposite direction.
The stitch lines are natural and uneven, just go with the flow.
Previously when I've machine quilted with vertical lines, they were all measured and straight.

I love the back too!
It's Rebecca's birthday today :)
Happy Birthday Rebecca!

My granddaughter Isabel turned one on February 11.
She is a gentle little girl, so I made her cake in soft colors.
The border doesn't stand out very well, I'm not sure what I was thinking about that!
The machine quilting is called "geometric".

I machine quilted from one corner to the middle and to the other corner to form a type of arrow head or triangle.
I did the same on the other side and the same on the top and the bottom.
From there, I shadow quilted.

The back is really cute with all the little cupcakes :)

I'm up todate on all my birthday banners for the year 2016.
Next year, I'll be making my two new grandchildren a quilty fun birthday banner for their first birthdays :)

If you missed it, I have a tutorial on Lori Holt's quilty fun birthday cakes, you can find it here.

Another Sew Together Bag

I'm here to show you another sew together bag I made :)
This is the my fifth one, and I don't have to look a the photo tutorial that I found online anymore, yay!
There are so many creative possibilities for this bag.
I used Lori Holt's "modern minis" fabric line for the outside of the bag.
The red check binding is from her first fabric line, "sew cherry".

Isn't this side so happy?

The sew together bag isn't complete without a cute charm on the end of the zipper!
I bought these Salt Lake temple charms from doodle bead, on etsy.

The pockets are so big inside, there are four of them.
I put washi tape in one, and various other paper products in the others.
I used Lori Holt fabric on the inside too, but not modern minis.
I chose fabric that had reds and aquas.

Here's a look at the bag with empty pockets :)
There are so many things you can use this bag for....paper stuff, post its, stickers, gel pens, sewing notions, embroidery supplies, coupons, and even makeup.
I'd be a little hesitant to use it for makeup though, because it would discolor the fabric over time.

I love these labels, I bought them from tag-it-ons, you can google them, or call 949-552-3299.

I used lots of bright colored zippers.

I really love the "purses" fabric pocket :)

This is what the insides of the zipper pockets look like.

Thanks for showing interest in my sew together bags!

Sew Together Bag

I love sew together bags, they are a little complicated to make at first, but once you've made one, the rest are straightforward.
I have a love for Matryoshka dolls, so I found I use for a couple of my fat quarters.
I think the black and white fabric that I used for the binding makes the outer fabric pop :)

I love this matryoshka doll fabric so much, I used blue on one side and pink on the other.

I used low volume Cotton and Steel fabrics for the inside panels, each one is different.

I used a "you make me happy" label on the inside.

The linings of the zip pouches are all the same print, but different colors and they coordinate with the zippers.

It's always fun to include some little extras in my sew together bag with some of my favorite things!

I hope you've enjoyed seeing my creation as much as I enjoyed making it!

Sunshine and Surf, Love Patchwork & Quilting

I really love this magazine, have you ever read it?
There is always a free gift that comes with it, and the quilts are modern with a traditional twist.
I know that my daughter Lindsay likes modern, so I searched my Love Quilting and Patchwork magazines to find a quilt that she would like.

Sunshine and Surf was the one I was looking for!
Lot of rectangles with low volume fabrics.
I cut strip after strip of black, aqua and red, and countless low volume ones, and sewed them together.

I sewed and cut for days!

I love the variety of low volume fabrics, I've been collecting them!

Look at this, a sea of rectangles.

I thought that this looked like a simple quilt to make, but it was pretty time consuming!

A modern quilt needs modern quilting, so I quilted the whole thing in a circle, 1" apart, using my walking foot.
I think it's called spiral quilting :)

It's a large lap quilt!
I decided to bind it in green, to throw off the color scheme.

Lindsay has four young children, and Bridger and Kennedy, are in 5th and 3rd grade, are in chinese immersion at school.
I didn't know if this fabric was Japanese or Chinese, they told me it was Chinese.
There is mathematical fabric for Jeremy, who is an engineer.
Snap fabric and Maker fabric for Lindsay who creates.

I spotted this fabric at the quilt shop and had to get it!!!

It had the cutest selvage along the bottom, so I just cut it off and sewed it towards the bottom of the quilt.

I love Cotton and Steel!

The selvage even has 2 little Panda bears on it, which my granddaughter Charlotte loves :)

Jeremy and Lindsay on Christmas morning, they love their quilt!
Mission accomplished :)

Schnibbles pattern, Harvey

I made this quilt back in October, 2004.
I joined "A Year of Schnibbles and a little bit more", and this was one of the patterns that we were given.
You can read what I wrote about it here, I'll wait for you....
You're back, it's much prettier quilted, isn't it?
I didn't end up putting it on the bed, I gifted it to my son and his family.

My friend Cindy Paulson did a magnificent job on the quilting, as she usually does!
I think the quilt is very feminine with its different shades of pink,  and beautiful floral quilting.

I used a lot of text fabric for the background.

I really love the backing, it's pink with bright colored leaves on the trees and little strawberries.

I gave the quilt to my son Addison and his beautiful wife Mabulane (mah-boo-lah-nee), who is from Lesotho, Africa.
She is Addison's eternal souvernir from his two year LDS mission to Johannesburg, South Africa.
They have 3 sweet little girls, Neo (nay-o), Kylie and Isabel.
I love giving quilts to my family, but making six for Christmas is too much work!!! LOL
