Twinkly Winter Stars!

For those of you who are following along, or sewing your own
Bee in my Bonnet Row Along, you know that this is row 9.
The fun part for me is choosing the fabric!
Look at all of these little lovelies :)

My design board really helped me when I was sewing the twinkly winter stars together.  If they weren't laid out on the board, I know I would have sewn the pieces together in the wrong order.
I didn't have to use my seam ripper once!  Phew!!!

I love these little stars, they were fun and easy to sew together.

Here they are, all joined together.

The stars were little, so I chose little prints out of my stash.

I love my rows!!!
Thanks Lori for making this such a fun project :)

Mittens

I'm almost caught up.....just finished Row 8, Mittens!
I think that I used to have a pair of mittens just like these...

I tried to choose fabrics that looked like real mittens.

It was fun choosing the mitten cuffs to coordinate with the mitten.

None of my mittens have different fabric for the thumbs, mainly because I couldn't find any that matched very well.

Row 8 complete!  It is such a good feeling to be almost caught up!

Leaves!

These are the fabrics I chose for my 16 leaves, in the Bee in my Bonnet Row Along, row 7.

Don't the squares looks so pretty all laid out on my design board?

There are 11 pieces for each leaf and sashing in between each leaf block.  There is a lot of pressing, measuring and cutting to make 16 leaves!

Originally, each leaf had two prints of the same color.  Since my rows have such bright colors, I thought I would shake it up a bit by pairing up different colors on each leaf half.  I thought it might be too normal with two leaves with the same color and print on each row.

Do you see what I mean?
I have a yellow leaf and then a pink/red one, a red leaf and an orange/yellow one, etc.

16 leaves, all in a row!

Row #7, added to my design wall, er....wall!

Nine Cups of Cocoa

Well, I'm on the fast track to catching up to the Bee in my Bonnet Row Along.
My favorite part about making this quilt is choosing the fabrics.
I think the green cup in the middle looks like it is from Anthropologie, my favorite store :)
It just needs a "c" stamped on it in blue ink.

The best way to take a photo of this 50 l/2" row is to lay it on my two largest design boards like so.....

Nine cups of Cocoa is Row #6.
I have 4 more rows to measure, cut and sew before I am caught up.

Flying Geese

I have been away from home for a few weeks, helping out with the birth of a new grandchild.  I have been itching to sew.  There are a couple of blessing outfits that I need to smock and sew, but first I had to get some quilting out of my system :)

I am really behind on "The Bee in my Bonnet Row Along".
I have seen everyone's cute rows online and have been dying to catch up.
Today the "geese flew the coup", and I worked on row 5.

I love choosing and pairing fabrics.

I think these prints are really "happy".
Today I ran errands, made and received phone calls, set up appointments, prepared dinner and was able to finish my flying geese.

Bee in my Bonnet Row Along

I've been working on Lori's Row Along, and having a great time doing it!  I showcased the fabrics I chose for the quilt and Row 1 here.  The butterflies are Row 2.  For me, the best part of making a quilt is choosing the fabric :)

I know this photo is sideways, but that is how the butterfly row will be sewn into the quilt.  The fabric for each butterfly was chosen with great care!

This is rows 1 and 2 together.  Lori is designing the quilt as she goes although I know she has the large picture in her head.  Even though the rows are numbered, we don't really know what order they will be in the quilt.

This is row 3, zig zags.

This is Rows 1, 2 and 3 together.
Peekaboo to my fabric hording.....er, stash! LOL

This is Row 4, don't you just love the apples?  I made 2 large design boards and really love them!  They are from Lori's tutorial.

McIntosh, Gala, Fuji, Granny Smith and Pink Lady apples.  Isn't the apple core cute?  I also took great care in choosing the greens for the leaves.  Each of the leaves is a different fabric.

Golden Delicious and more varieties of red apples.

Rows 1, 2, 3, and 4.  This is going to be the cutest quilt!  My husband is going to say, "What are you going to do with this quilt?"
My reply, "I don't know, enjoy it, admire it, perhaps give it away?"
What would you say to your husband as I'm sure he wonders what you are going to do with all of your quilts too!!!

Row Along and the Farmer's Wife Quilt

I am participating in the Bee in my Bonnet Row Along.  You can read about it here.  Anything Lori does is just too good to pass up!
She told us to choose 7 colors, about 9 prints in each color. I went to my stash and began pulling out colors and prints.  I made a discovery....I have so many polka dots!  I am going to make a conscious effort to choose more ginghams, plaids and little flowers. I have been caught up in the big, modern designs, and had forgotten about keeping my stash replenished with little prints.
These are the colors and prints I chose.

I am really excited with my choices :)

I cut out my squares as instructed, and Lori had the coolest method of sewing and cutting the squares.  You will have to take a look at how she did it.
Two squares out of each color, times two.

Here is my first row, I love the colors!!!
It's scrap happy :)

Over a year and a half ago, I began the Farmer's Wife Quilt Along.
I showed you my blocks in a former post, here.
I finally finished sewing the sashing between the blocks.  I have never sewn blocks on point before, and had to redo quite a few of the yellow triangles.  I had cut off the seam allowances and it would have looked terrible so I bit my lip, ripped out the yellow triangles I had sewn, cut larger yellow rectangles, and had enough fabric for seam allowances.  I attached the border and now I just need to find some fabric for the back.

The border is red with what else, teeny little white polka dots!
Remember that I said I have a lot of polka dots!!!
I can hardly believe that the top is finished :)
