Farm Girl Vintage, Country Fair quilt

I posted about this "Country Fair" quilt a few weeks ago, when I finished the top.
My wonderful quilter/friend, Cindy Paulson, machine quilted it for me, and I just finished binding it.
These are my favorite blocks from the book "Farm Girl Vintage".

I love making star blocks, the one on the left is called "Autumn Star".
The "Scrappy Maple Leaf" block reminds me of Canada, my home and native land!
"Mama Hen" reminds me of two of my children who have chickens who lay eggs, but they're not golden :) Ha ha!
"Canning Season" is a great block, I used to love canning when my children lived at home and I had a garden.

"Old Glory", because I became an American citizen seven years ago.
"Milking Day" reminds me of my daughter, because she owns a share in a cow named Patience.
She milks her once a week :)

"Scrappy Strawberry", I love a juicy red California strawberry!
"Penny Pig" is adorable, I made my granddaughter a couple of stuffed pigs for Christmas last year.
"Baking Day", I do a lot of that!
The blue bowl represents a beautiful blue Fire King bowl that my daughter Rebecca gave me for Mother's Day one year.
The green bowl represents Jadeite, my daughter Lindsay has quite a collection.
The "Simple Star" block is not that simple, I sewed a 6" postage stamp block in the middle.
I love the numbers background too :)

"Pie Cherries" is my husband's favorite pie and my favorite fruit.
"Woolly Sheep" was so cute, I just had to include him :)

See the gorgeous flower that Cindy quilted all over the quilt?

She's the best quilter!!!

I've always loved this Alexander Henry print, and it suits the Country Fair quilt perfectly!

I didn't have enough pear fabric for the back, so I added some Heather Bailey stripes which match the colors perfectly.
I really like scrappy backs too, don't you?

Farm Girl Vintage, Silo Barn mini quilts

Have I told you how much I love this book?  LOL

I'm making some Christmas gifts for my quilty friends.
I know that this friend loves Hallowe'en!
I made her this Silo Barn with a Patchwork Pumpkin.
The birds on the silo look like crows, very sinister!

The barn window is all about a costume contest and Hallowe'en Carnival :)

I saw this skeleton fabric at a quilt shop recently but only bought a fat quarter, I should have bought more!
Don't you love the color?
It looks like a minty green but not quite, it's very different.
I machine quilted the mini with a straight matchstick design.

I backed the mini silo with the cutest purple (a rich Hallowe'en color) skeleton print, and bound it with a bright orange polka dot.
I hope my friend screeches with delight when she opens her gift!

I made another silo barn for another quilty friend, it's more modern.
I'm not sure what the block on the barn door is called, does anyone know?
I used linen for the background, I really like the look.

I stitched a running embroidery stitch around the barn, and used a wavy machine quilting stitch.

I backed the quilt in a cute bird design.
I think these birds represent happiness, especially when thinking about my friend :)

Farm Girl Vintage quilt

I finished one of my Farm Girl Vintage quilts, with most of my favorite blocks!
I love the American flag, the Canadian maple leaf, the milking can, Mama Hen, the canning jars, the strawberry and the cherry, Penny Pig, the stars, the cute little lamb and the mixing bowls and wooden spoon.
I really, really love this quilt.
I have a lot more Farm Girl Vintage quilts in the works, this isn't the only one I'm making.
They are all so irresistible!

Farm Girl Vintage - Weeks 13 and 14

I've been trying to keep up with my Farm Girl Vintage blocks.
When I make the 6" block, I try to use mostly Lori Holt fabrics.
This is a 6" Old Red Barn block.

Old Glory, I made one in both 6" and 12" sizes, but as you can see, I didn't use Lori's fabrics, there weren't really enough blues in the shades that I wanted.
Both blocks are really similar, but they'll be in separate quilts, so it really doesn't matter :)

Mama Hen with a Simple Star.
I love the brilliance of the aqua fabric, and I also love pink and orange together!
I'm really proud of her little pink beak too :)

This is a 6" block.
You can tell, because I used most of Lori's fabrics.
I'm not crazy about sewing 6" blocks though, because they are more difficult, with all the little pieces.

I love the Milking Day block, I think it's the first one I made out of the book.
My daughter belongs to a milking coop.
Fourteen people have a share in a cow (her name is Patience) and each of them has a designated morning or evening to milk it every week.
There's a photo of me milking Patience here.
A genuine milking can is pretty expensive too!

My daughter now has chickens....

 ...and goats for milking.
I'm going to make her one of the Farm Girl Vintage quilts, I think she'll appreciate it :)
By the way, that's Maisie, aka Queen Elsa, who I made the dress for in last week's blog.

Farm Girl Vintage QAL, weeks 11 and 12

Grandma's Quilt block was so much fun to make!
I used fabric from Lori's "Aunt Millie's" line and fussy cut all the pieces.
The outer corners are from "Vintage Happy".
Isn't it pretty?

I've been making Haystack blocks for a couple of years now.
I purchased my clear acrylic container at TJ Maxx, one of my favorite stores!
I think it was meant to hold makeup.
It's been perfect for my 2" blocks a
nd 11/2" strips.
This method is called Leaders and Enders.
When you're sewing a block, instead of cutting the thread each time you sew two pieces together, you just run two pieces of haystack block through your machine, then the block you're sewing, then the haystack block, etc.
Not only does this allow you to sew two quilts at a time, but it also saves a lot of thread.

I have enough Haystack blocks for the Scrappy Haystack Sampler quilt.
Yay!!!

Here's my haystack block.

I would love to have a kettle this color in my kitchen :)

Finally, the Kitchen Window block, the fastest one yet!
Did you notice how I fussy cut the window panes out of "Modern Minis"?
This was a very simple block to sew too.
Did I mention that I plan on making the Farm Girl Sampler quilt with these 6" blocks.
There are 45 of them.
Do you have the Farm a Girl Vintage book yet?
If you don't, I suggest you jump in the bandwagon and join all the fun :)

Farm Girl Vintage QAL, weeks 8, 9 and 10

I love this Farmhouse block!
I really want to make the Farmhouse Lane quilt :)

You can see other farmhouse blocks I've made here and here
This was my second attempt at the 6" farmhouse block, my first one didn't turn out. I think I got one of the measurements mixed up.
I'm trying to use my Lori Holt fabric stash for the 6" blocks.

I love my Feed and Seed block, and used all of Lori's fabric lines except for the yellow square and the red dot background.

The Fresh Pears block is one of my favorites, but this is the first time I made it.
It's really simple to make, even the 6" size.

The Furrows block was very simple to make, just 8 flying geese, all in Lori's fabrics.

Lastly, is the Gingham block.
It's so much fun choosing the colors :)
I watched a movie on Netflix while I cut, sewed and pressed.

Chain stitching this block was simple, I never worried about getting the squares out of order.

Red and Aqua, my favorite color combo! I wanted to make more Gingham blocks, but just didn't have the time...

Do you think my block looks like gingham?

Farm Girl Vintage QAL

I've been making a lot of gifts for family members who have birthdays coming up :)
I was able to squeeze in some Farm Girl Vintage sewing, even though my life has been pretty busy lately.
This is the Egg Basket Block.
I used all Lori Holt fabrics, except for the background.
I always used to "hoard" her fabric but now I'm starting to realize that I better use the fabric I love so much!

This is the Farm Flower Block, what a cute name!
I used all of Lori's fabrics again, except for the background.
My favorite part of quilting is choosing the fabric.
I find something really satisfying and rewarding about it.
Truthfully, these 6" blocks are difficult to sew.
These two aren't bad, but a lot of the blocks have such teeny weeny pieces!
I've decided to make the Farm Girl Sampler quilt, so I'm making all of the blocks in the book in a 6 l/2" size.
I'm only 3 blocks behind....

Here's my tractor block, it's 24 l/2" X 28 l/2"!
I still need to embroider the seat and the smoke.
I'm really not sure what I'm going to do with the tractor block, I don't think I want to make 266 4 l/2" pinwheels....
but then again, they are so pretty :)
Any suggestions?

Farm Girl Vintage - Silo Barn Quilt

I love this Silo Barn quilt in the Farm Girl Vintage book, by Lori Holt.
It's on page 92, and measures 51 l/2" X 51 l/2".

I have seven silo barns from a Quilty Fun Barn sew along that Lori had a couple of years ago.
I decided to make this quilt.
It was pretty quick, considering I already had the barns already sewn :)

Mine's a lot busier than Lori's, but I really like it :)

The gingham border is from "Sew Cherry", Lori's first line of fabric.

I love my little quilt, I just have to get it machine quilted :)
