Chalkboard Platter

Have you missed me?  I hope so, because I have missed you ♥

I recently discovered chalkboard spray paint.

You can purchase it at Walmart, Michaels and hardware stores.

I showed you how I changed my ugly, outdated angel picture into a cute chalkboard here.

This is how it looked during the holidays.

My son wrote his favorite scripture at the top and I won't erase it until he comes home in 16 months!

I saw a silver (not genuine) tray that had chalkboard paint in the center.  I purchased a circular one at the store since I wasn't able to find any rectangle ones.  It was difficult to tape, I had to tear off pieces.

I sprayed one coat of chalkboard paint onto the surface.

I painted in the backyard, so the trees are reflected on the platter.

The paint dries really fast.  I determined that the platter needed a second coat of spray.

The blue paint tape came off really easily.  I wrote a message on the platter and the gift was ready. I really liked the message that I had written on my large chalkboard.  I just wrote it smaller :)

I was so anxious to wrap the platter up that I forgot to take a photo.

This platter could hang on the wall or sit on an easel on the counter.

You could write the daily menu, write reminders of things to do, write a love note to your husband or family member, use it as a memo board and leave notes on it, or write a seasonal message.

The possibilities are endless.

 Now go buy some chalkboard paint and have some fun!

Chalkboard Gifts

I ordered these wooden plaques from "Pick Your Plum".  

They were engraved with the names of all of my grandchildren, except for Benjamin who was born after I ordered the plaques.  Benjamin would be too young to play with them anyway....

I sprayed the first set with black chalkboard paint.

It dries really fast.

I used paint markers to highlight their names.

I sprayed the second set with green chalkboard paint.

The names looks so much prettier after they are embellished.

Before you write or draw with chalk on the boards, you have to shade the whole surface with chalk and then wipe it off with a dry cloth. This enables the chalk to adhere to the surface better.

I made a set of chalk holders for each grandchild.

Don't they look pretty all packaged up with a mentos treat?

I'm hoping they will be a big hit!

Angel Picture DIY

My husband bought an angel picture for our bedroom in the 1980's.  

Our bedroom was painted blue with blue flowered wallpaper, and angels were popular then.

After many years, we were tired of the picture.

I recycled it to the bathroom which had a huge empty space.

Wow, naked cupid angels in the bathroom :)

We moved again and this time there was no big "hidden" wall to hang the angel picture.

I told my husband that we should get rid of the picture.

He was more than happy to oblige because he hates clutter.

I took a second look and realized that the frame was really nice.

It has two different flower motif.

I have been wanting to hang a chalkboard in the house and this frame would be perfect for that!

The picture is matted, so I was just going to remove the matte and assumed the angels were printed on cardboard.  Not so!

The print was paper, and was only a little larger than the opening of the matte.  

There was a heavy cardboard on the back of the matted angel picture and it was all attached.

I took out the picture, matte and cardboard and painted spray painted the cardboard with black chalk paint.  So easy!!!

I painted the frame aqua, and rubbed a black glaze over the motifs.

Voila!  I got Sean to write his favorite scripture at the top before he left for his two year church mission to Brazil, two years ago.

Then I wrote a cute quote on the rest of the chalkboard.

I want to get a nice Thanksgiving quote to put on there.

This project was so easy!
