Doll Clothes

I have a pair of pants that are one size too small....
I was going to give them to the thrift store but then I remembered that Kelsie (my grand daughter's 18" doll) needed a pair of pants.
I decided to reuse!

Kelsie has a pair of white jeans for the summer, and they're from Gap :)

I made a cute little top and Kelsie has a new outfit!

This is the back of the top, I love the little button :)

I had a shirt that I loved too.  I thought the embroidery would be cute on a doll outfit.

It was a little difficult to sew because the embroidery was thick and it was hard to sew such little seams.

The top also matches this little striped pair of leggings.
I cut the leggings out of an old shirt, but forgot to take a photo of it. The lace on the printed top with the white pants, is also from the striped shirt.

If you're interested in dolls, I posted about Kelsey's fashion show here.  I made her a whole wardrobe full of clothes!

I posted about Kelsey's birthday party here.

In conclusion, I think I need to buy myself a doll!  Ha ha!!
I really enjoy sewing doll clothes :)

Candlestick - DIY

I have had this candlestick for a long time and really like it.
It has two others that are in the set, all different heights.
The only problem, is that I'm not crazy about the dark color anymore.
Time to do a little painting....

I took them to the backyard and spray painted them white.

I wanted them to have some texture.
I bought this glaze at the hardware store and had them add some black paint.
The can is full, so there isn't much room to add paint, just a little.

With the smaller foam brush, I painted the ridges of the candlestick lightly.  Then I wiped it off with a dry paper towel.
The grooves are now a little darker, giving a distressed or antique look.
You can add as much or as little as you want to.

Now the candlesticks don't blend in with the rest of the decor.

That spray paint dries really fast.
The whole project took about an hour and a half, including drying time.
Does this inspire you to paint something in your home?

Another Travel Pillow

I made another travel pillow.  I don't know how many I've made, but I am keeping Joann Fabrics in business by buying their pillows!

This is the cutest fabric, it lists all sorts of fun things to do and create!

I think my favorite part of making a project, is choosing the colors and prints of the fabric.

This pillow will be travelling to Brazil with Sister VanWagenen, who will be serving a mission for 18 months.

Happy 4th of July!

About a month ago, I updated my framed chalkboard to a patriotic quote to commemorate the 4th of July.
I love changing it for different holidays and seasons.
The scripture at the top is my son's favorite one.
He wrote it on the chalkboard before he left for his mission and I won't erase it until after he comes home in April 2014 :)

Happy July 4th!!!
Have a wonderful time celebrating our nation's independence with your family and friends :)

Another Giveaway for You ♥

I have 3000 followers on Pinterest and I want to celebrate with you!
I made this cute little needle book that I saw on Amy's blog, Nana Company, and of course pinned it to my "Want to Make It" board on Pinterest.

There are four little felt pages in the book, these are the only two that are decorated :)

The back is sewn in patchwork, with 1" finished squares.
I quilted around the squares with red embroidery floss.

Riley Blake Design Mystery Block of the Month - June

Riley Blake Design's block of the month for June is their signature bird, and it's called "Birds of a Feather".

Riley Blake Designs

The link for the "how to" video is here.
I wanted to make the "needle turn" applique bird, there were eleven  pieces.
I didn't have a template for the bird, so I eyeballed where to applique the pieces on the bird.
I love my little Riley Blake bird :)

These are my other blocks, they're pretty pink, aren't they?
I'm going to sash them in a totally different color and I'm really looking forward to putting it all together, I love choosing fabrics.
