Farm Girl Vintage - Quilty Barns

My Quilty Barn quilt is quilted!

I just need to bind it, but my Bernina is in for repair and I don't really want to attach the binding without my awesome walking foot.

Lori Holt from Bee in my Bonnet had a free Quilty Barn Along, about 2 years ago, on her blog.

Now you can find the barn pattern in her new book, 

Farm Girl Vintage.

I just love my quilt, it's so colorful and happy.

I finished it 2 years ago, and it has hanging on the railing in my sewing room all this time!

I remember sewing all the blocks, and the sashing pieces remind me of all the sewing projects I made for loved ones.

I love Tasha Noel's fabric, the little country girl hanging up her socks, and some of Lori Holt's fabric, a quilt  I made for my granddaughter Reagan, when she was born :)

Memories...

The Be Happy fabric I used for the barn door is from Sweetwater.

Some more of Tasha Noel's fabric on the roof, and I used the butterfly fabric at the bottom, to make a Smartie Girl Book Bag for one of my daughters.

I absolutely adore the back, it's a Heather Ross print.

I thought the busy little bees and the clover went along well with the barn theme.

There is no way that I can gift this quilt, there are too many memories in it for me, and I spent about a year making it, not including the 2 years it hung on my railing, lol!

The Quilty Barn Along, Cool Threads

 I love this "cool threads" block!

I chose bright, happy fabrics for the thread.

This is block #5 of the silo barns.

I like the yellow barn with gray accents, that's the color of my bedroom.

What better place to "plant a garden", than at a farm!

I'm all caught up on my barns now :)

The Quilty Barn Along, Patchwork Pumpkin

This quilty silo barn is #7 and it's perfect for October!

I think the teal barn color goes really well with the orange patchwork pumpkin.

Isn't this the cutest block ever?

I could see a quilt or a table runner with these pumpkins!

The Quilty Barn Along, Canning Season

These barns are always so much fun to design and make!

Lori has some really cute vintage photos on her blog, and you can get the instructions for her mason jars and silo barn tutorial here.

I chose the colors for my mason jars very carefully :) 
This is silo barn #6.

The green jar is green beans, the orange is peaches, the yellow is corn, the purple is grape juice (yuck, I see some spiders got in there by accident.....), the aqua is strawberries, and the red is tomatoes.

Yummy!!!  I love home canning!

I auditioned my fabrics and here they are.

Here's my cute little silo barn!  

The fabric I used for the window is Japanese fabric, I fussy cut it from a busy print.

The Quilty Barn Along!

This "quilty barn along" journey has been so much fun and I even made a new friend, Joanna :)

I really like this quilt.

Like all the other quilts, it was loads of fun choosing the fabric.

I made four barns that weren't red, they were patterned after one in Quebec, and three in Prince Edward Island.

I have no idea what I'm going to do with this quilt....ha ha!!!

I loved making it and was able to use up some of my stash.

Here it is!  TaDa!!!

The Quilty Barn Along, sashing

Here are my blocks, all laid out the way I think they look the best.

Four of my blocks aren't red, I patterned them after ones I saw in Quebec and Prince Edward Island.

 I wanted to wait until I finished all the blocks before I sashed them.

I rummaged through my scrap basket and found these strips of fabric for the sashing.  

One of the reasons I love scraps is because they bring back memories of previous quilts and projects I've sewn.

I can see a baby's cradle I made for my grand daughter for Christmas, a baby quilt I made for my grandson 7 years ago, an apron I made for my friend at Christmas, fabric for some baby pants I made for another grand daughter, a doll dress I made, a travel pillow, and so on and so on.

Does it make you nostalgic when you use your scraps?

The Quilty Barn Along, Flying Geese and Furrows

I really liked sewing this block. 

Lori has a really interesting and different way of making a flying geese block.

The block's 6", which makes the flying geese really small!

The Quilty Barn Along, Bitty Scrap Around Block

I love sewing these barn blocks!

I dug through my scrap box and found 1 l/2" strips to make this "bitty scrap around" block.

I really need to organize my scraps!

The Quilty Barn Along, Summer Star

I made this barn block the same day that Lori posted it on her blog but I'm just getting around to blogging about it today.

I always love choosing fabric for these blocks.  

Here is my summer block.

Don't look too closely though, I made a few flubs....

I'm running out of selections for blacks, grays and browns for the roofs.

I used Aneela Hooey's "Little Apples" for the door and window of the barn.

Silo Barn #4

Well, I finished my fourth silo barn.

I think my little egg basket block turned out really cute :)

I copied the fabrics that Lori used for her silo barn very closely.

I have a collection of all her fabric lines in my stash, and was very excited to use this print from "Daisy Cottage" for the silo.

After further inspection, I notice that the little gingham print blends into the linen background, not so good!

I'm thrilled with the little girl in the window!

She's gathering eggs from the chicken to put in the egg basket :)

The fabric is from Aneela Hooey's "Posy" line.

I have a weakness for children's prints!

Quilty Barn Along, Vintagey Farm Girl Tractor Block

Hi Everyone, happy Monday :)

I love the Quilty Barn Along that Lori Holt is doing on her blog, Bee in my Bonnet.

It has been so much fun choosing fabrics, and making all the barns and barns with their silos come to life!  

I didn't grow up on a farm but as a child we would travel to Prince Edward Island every summer to visit all of our relatives on both my parent's sides of the family.....grandparents, great grandparents, great aunts, great uncles, aunts, uncles, cousins, second cousins, you get the idea :)

Quite a few of my great uncles were dairy farmers.

They had the most beautiful farms, I wish I had some photos....

The Quilt Barn Along has meant a lot to me, brought back some great memories!

Here is my "Vintagey Farm Girl Tractor" as Lori calls it.

I like the tires, they look as though they have huge treads!

The Quilty Barn Along, Silo Barn #3

I love making these barns!  How many times can I say that?

The block on this barn is called "peas and carrots".

I was lucky to have fabric in my stash that met my needs :)

My stash is growing at a rapid rate, so it's not surprising!!!

I copied Lori with her aqua color scheme on the barn, using some Denyse Schmidt prints.

The Quilty Barn Along #9

This block is called Country Crossroads.

I really love the colors and prints, the block almost looks three dimensional.

I love this cute little barn with the chevron roof!

Aren't the dogs adorable?  I had to fussy cut the fabric to get those little scoundrels looking out the door and the window.

This is the Chicken Foot quilt block.

I love it!

Wouldn't it be great to sew a quilt with these blocks?

Do the colors pop out at you?  

I think the block has a definate modern look.

The chicken feet almost look like little crowns :)

I love this barn! 

 I love the fabric and the cute little dog in the window.
