Have Yourself a Quilty Little Christmas

Hi Everyone!

I intended to have this quilty fun Christmas quilt finished by tonight, but I watched Christmas movies on TV with my family, instead.

Have you seen "Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever?"

It's hilarious in an extremely corny sort of way!!!

Just in case you haven't heard of this quilt, you can read my previous post about it here.

Here's a cute courthouse steps block.

I sewed some of the blocks together and like how the low volume backgrounds are blending together.

Here's my stocking block, Lori threw it in as a bonus block!

Here's my entire quilt, without the border.

I never showed you the wreath blocks, aren't they adorable?
They're bonus blocks too!

I was a little worried about my bright backgrounds mixing with the low volumes, but I think it turned out well :)

I'm currently working on my pieced 4 patch border, but it's going to be a while....

These are all the pieces that need to be sewn, cut, pressed and sewn  together again, you get the idea!
The border and finished dimensions of the quilt will be the same as Lori's Apple-Icious quilt.

AYOS and a little bit more - November

This is our quilt pattern for the month of November.

Stems, by Fig Tree & Co.

It's only 19 l/2" X 25 1/4".

When I first began quilting, Snippets by American Jane was very popular.

I loved it because of the colors and it had a definite vintage theme.

I used one of my Snippets charm packs for this mini quilt.

I love the look and I did a some outline machine quilting.

I'm not so sure about the uneven "x's" in the middle, but I still love it.

The pink I used on the back is my favorite color and print in the entire line!

Modern Instate - November

This is the book that our modern instabee chooses their blocks from.

Ziggy Stardust is the name of this month's block.

It's unusual, isn't it?

A whole quilt of these blocks, I think they are placed horizontally and vertically.

I wanted to find a photo to show you, but when I googled Ziggy Stardust, photos of David Bowie came up!!!

Ha ha!!!

Only one two more months for this quilting bee and then it will be over.

Have Yourself a Quilty Little Christmas

My friend Lori Holt from bee in my bonnet, is doing a quilt along.

It's not on her blog though, it's on Instagram.

Her name is beelori1 and it is so much fun trying to keep up with her and seeing all the blocks everyone else makes.

Lori told us that the blocks would be from her book Quilty Fun, and to pull some quilty Christmas fabrics for the QAL.

Our first block was a little cottage, a lot of people made gingerbread houses.

Then we made a cocoa mug.

Lori surprised us by adding a block that wasn't in her book, a cute little Christmas tree.

Here are all of my blocks, including some pretty fabrics that I love.

I made some white fluffy Santa mitts.

I'm being a little daring, choosing such bright colors for the background.  

We have no idea what order the blocks will be sewn, or what the finished size will be :)

Lori gave us a little gingerbread man who wasn't in the book!

He should have 3 little buttons down his front but I haven't sewn them on yet.

Here's what I have so far, I think the colors go together pretty well.

5 Christmas lights, they were fall leaves in the book :)

We added a candy cane stick to stir our hot chocolate.

Block 7 is a Christmas candle to put in our window.

Block 8 is a Christmas star, to represent the star of Bethlehem and the birth of our Savior and Redeemer.

Block 9 is a cute vintagey ornament which isn't in the book either.

I was referring to Lori's profile so many times to see what the measurements were for each block.

I decided to keep a journal of all the blocks and the cutting directions.

I will probably want to make another quilty Christmas quilt and would like to have the directions in one place.

I recorded everything in my "Happy Day" journal.

Block 10 is a sewing basket that represents all the giving that we do at Christmas.

Lori told us the order to sew these blocks together.

I think the color blocking works, thank goodness!

I forgot to take a photo of Block 11, a Christmas present, in the lower left corner.

Block 12 is spools of thread or ribbon.

Here are all the blocks I've made for this little QAL.

I made a new star, because I didn't think the colors in the previous one matched the rest of the colors in my quilt.

I have no idea how many more blocks there are, but I hope you join, it is like being with your best friends in your own sewing room :)

Bees Knees, a quilting bee - November

November is Sinta's month from Pink Pincushion.

She chose the pattern "Tiled Blooms by Corey Yoder 

of Little Miss Shabby.

This block was way more easy than it looks.

The petals were fused on and stitched with a narrow blanket stitch.

I'm beyond thrilled to belong to the Bees Knees Quilting Bee.

In this bee, we choose a quilt block when it's our designated month, and we send the fabric and pattern to each of the bee members and they return it at the end of the month.

This particular pattern is offered free by Corey on her blog.

Creative Hallowe'en Food

My son in law Jeremy comes from a great family.

His mom, Shauna has many fun traditions.

One of them is having her children and their families trick or treat at their home the eve before Hallowe'en, bewitching night!  

When I am in town, she always includes me in the family festivities, which I really appreciate!

Shauna is so creative and always makes things beautiful for her guests.

Here are little glass pint bottles of apple juice with polka dot and chevron striped paper straws and a black ribbon tied to look like a bat, notice the scalloped edge of the ribbon wings and the cute little white eyes :)

Next up, are "mummy" dogs.

We all love these, especially the children!!!!

Not only did we have mummy dogs, but chili as well, yummy!

Look at the beautiful wicker basket full of fall leaves and the gorgeous wicker chargers to match :)

Even the paper products match the decor perfectly, you can tell that Shauna chose them with great care.

Cute little lime napkins that add a pop of bright color!

For dessert, we had adorable little ghosts floating on orange jello mixed with whipped cream.

Everyone got a little basket to go "trick or treating" for these darling little skeletons.

Shauna made delicious chocolate gooey brownies and topped them with pretzels dipped in white chocolate and topped with a marshmallow head.

She drew the face on with an edible marker.

The marker's not edible, but the ink is!

She wrapped them up in cellophane and tied them with an orange tulle bow.

Next up are creepy but yummy spiders :)

White chocolate bark with crushed Hallowe'en oreos and Hallowe'en sprinkles.  

Who could resist these in their cute packaging?

The bark was fabulous!

Witches hats, with chocolate kisses and caramel :)

Last but not least, were delectable ghost and cat and pumpkin shaped donuts from a luxurious gourmet donut shop.

These guys went gaga over all the deliciousness of the evening!!!
